ANOTHER YEAR'S DAWNED ON ME

Tosin Abegunde

Though we lingered long in slumber’s hold, Adversaries thought our fight was cold.

Now we stride the streets with heads held high, Our radiance gleams like stars in the sky.

Proclaim it bold on the mountain’s crest, A fountain of strength flows within my breast.

It cleanses deep the scars of pain, And yields a well of boundless gain.

Sing my joy in any tone you choose, But know my heart no longer rues.

Cast out naked to the wilderness wide, A savior’s hand caught me in stride.

Why should my joy not endlessly soar, When I draw from the fount of joy evermore?

Whoever dares to snuff this light, On envy’s altar shall face their plight.

I’ll shake the earth till no earth remains, For I stand firm on the rock that sustains.

Though I dine with foes who feign to be friends, Another year dawns, and my spirit ascends.
