ODE TO MY GODMOTHER
In your nurturing womb I took form, Amidst foetal throbs, a life was born. Midwives read my fate—high, low, or fair, With trembling hope and audacious prayer. Like molten dross, your cuddle shaped, A heart pure, where tongues escape. In unity’s embrace, diversity thrives, Endowing all who through you arrive.
As a toddler, dawn broke my way, You led me through paths rough with clay. Reduced to rubble, baptized in streams, An academic Euphrates of dreams. Through shadows deep, I earned my place, A smooth ascent to destiny’s grace.
You injected discernment’s clear sight, To grasp fate’s horns in darkest night. My hands washed yesterday’s wounds clean, Eased today’s regrets, set tomorrow’s gleam. An eaglet taught to soar through storm, Against fierce winds, my strength was formed. Baked in your kiln, I stand tall and sure, To face time’s test, my spirit pure.
Now, as intelligentsia, we scatter wide, Like ants to sugar, with zealous pride. We probe the art of language’s math, Guided by pedagogies’ empiric path. Two worlds apart, yet one voice we raise, Dear alma mater, eternal praise. You armed my hands with skills to impart, Feathered my cap with glory’s art. Success, a journey, not a final shore, For those who climb to heights evermore.
